Day 2
After a good nights
sleep we broke camp
and headed to Cimarron for breakfast.
The Hungry Traveler is a
favorite spot for many
Scouts on the way in and out of Philmont.
Next stop Philmont Scout Ranch.
We checked in and
started our busy day of
preparation for the trail. The group we are talking to
in the photo below just came off the trail. They were one
of the treks that left 10 days ago when
Philmont opened for the 2002 season.
They looked a little beat up.
We found our tents and set up home for the night.
A little lunch in the dinning hall.
Next we meet our Ranger.
Blake was
from Ohio. His job was to make sure we were
ready for our hike. He started us out with
some basic navigation skills.
We did great!!!
We had seen a map before and recognized
it right off. We did have a little trouble when he
started asking questions about it. So that's what
that symbol means, uh??
Next up, the medical check in.
Even we were surprised
at some of the
comments the medical staff made about us. Everyone
passed and were declared ready for the trip.
Next stop was to get our trail equipment.
After we were issued
crew gear and food it
was time for the shake down by the Ranger. We pulled
our beds out and spread out our packs for the inspection.
I hope to have the
litigation settled soon from my
last search of this type with the
Arlington Police Department!!
Blake, where did you say your last job was at?
After dinner we reported
to the
Welcome Center for the opening program.
The staff put on a
wonderful show that
explained the history of this area.
Time to wind down the
first day and get some sleep.
Big day coming tomorrow.
