Philmont Trek 2002
Three members of Troop
127 were invited to Philmont
with another Troop in this area. It is very common for
a Troop to secure a trek at Philmont and then not be
able to fill all the spots.
Mathew D., Derek J. and Mr. Jones joined Troop 1932 on
their trek to Philmont June 19 through
July 2. We considered ourselves very
lucky to have been invited and to have the change to go with
a group where we knew most of the members. Our trek
took a digital camera and a 35 mm with several
lenses. Most of the following pages are pictures
from the digital camera. The 35 mm photos are of
course much better quality but also too large to easily
put on this web site. We took over 1300 digital pictures
with most of the shots focused on the boys. The landscape
was too beautiful for our photographic skills to
capture, so we made few attempts at it. My hope is that these pictures offer a
glimpse into the magical world of Philmont
as well as a sample for someone else from Troop 127 who
may get the chance to go in the future.
Philmont
was everything I had heard and more. It was better managed than I had ever dreamed. I was
very proud of
Mathew and Derek through out the trip. They both
struggled at times but never gave up and grew through the experience. I can see why
Philmont has been a special
place for Scouts for so many years.
